Learn about projects and events, related to climate change, that CBC is actively participating.

The Climate Reality Project is a global organization founded by the Nobel Peace Prize Al Gore. Since 2006 it has trained more than 9,000 climate leaders from more than 120 countries, thus creating a global network that influences public opinion and decision makers in both businesses and governments.

The purpose of the Climate Forum 2019  was to discuss the role of subnational climate action and assess where we stand - both globally and nationally - regarding adaptation and mitigation of Climate Change at the beginning of 2019. To know more, please click in the link below.

It was a 3 day event. Very diversified. We celebrated the 25th anniversary of the 1992 Earth Summit, in Rio. The UN was represented by the executive secretary od the UNEP, Eric Solheim and the event included a meeting in Brasilia with the President of Brazil, Michel Temer and two days in Rio.

In 2016, the CBC designed and launched, in partnership with “SOS Mata Atlântica”, a
campaign known as Ratify Now! (“Ratifica já!”), which had the objective of ratifying the
Paris Agreement by the National Congress and the President in the record time of two months. As a result Brazil became the first country to ratify the agreement.

The Executive Director of the Brazilian Climate Center (CBC), Alfredo Sirkis, was appointed on October 28th 2016, as the Executive Coordinator of the Brazilian Forum on Climate Change (FBMC), a forum for both civil society and the public sector.

On Sunday, November 29, in cities around the world, there were global climate marches aimed at pushing the Paris Climate Conference for more ambitious targets in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In Rio de Janeiro, convened by CBC/Climate Reality, it occurred in the waterfront of Ipanema and Copacabana. Check more below.

The Rio Climate Challenge 2015, two months before the Paris Conference, gathered a group of prestigious climate thinkers to get deeper into some ideas in the context of the CBC, our think tank that had just been registered officially. Know about the meeting.

There is a forecast that the necessary measures for Brazil to become a carbon neutral country - with zero emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) - will happen by the year 2060. The study “Brazil Carbon Zero 2060” was presented to the President in December 2018 and covers mitigation, adaptation and a long term vision.

The COP 21 or the Paris Climate Conference led to a new international climate agreement known as the Paris agreement, applicable to all countries, aiming to keep global warming below 2°C. Brazil became the first country to ratify that agreement, a position that strengthened the country’s role in international climate negotiations.

The Initial Proposal for the Implementation of the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) by Brazil was presented in 2018, as an input for the elaboration of a Brazilian NDC- which main objective is to deliver the climatic conditions assumed internationally by the country up to 2030. In 2018, the CBC also handed to President Michel Temer the document entitled "Climate Change, Risks and Opportunities", gathering strategic information on both risks and opportunities that climate change represents to Brazil in the current scenario. Numerous demonstrations for the Climate, in cities around the world, were organized with the support of the Climate Reality Project. In Rio de Janeiro, the CBC/Climate Reality promoted, at the Museum of Tomorrow, various manifestations for the Climate, Check more details about the event.

Brazil has submitted to the UNFCCC, in the COP 20, in Lima, in 2014, a proposal to recognize “the social and economic value of emissions reduction and the need to consider them as units of convertible financial value.” Know more about the work of CBC on Positive pricing of carbon reduction.

The Rio Climate Challenge 2013 was dedicated to various economic aspects of decarbonizing the economies. The issue of the GDP was the main metric of contemporary economy eventual alternatives to do it, the subsidies for fossil fuels, the carbon taxation and the pricing of carbon and of the minus-carbon. The Rio Climate Challenge was a side event of the Rio + 20 Conference. 14different countries participated and prepared recommendations for the official conference, which were distributed to all delegations, and a set a more detailed one that were handed to the UNFCCC Executive Secretary, Check out many more.
